I love Kansas City and our creative community.
KC has been my home for over 30 years. During this time, the city has afforded me countless opportunities, introduced me to so many talented people, and nurtured my creative spirit along the way.
When I was notified that my book entry, Raw Spirits, Tales from the Sketchbook, was selected as a top ten finalist in the AIGA-KC A20 Awards, I was thrilled to be included with such high-caliber creatives in our industry.
While attending the A20 ceremony on September 25th, it was revealed that Raw Spirits was selected for two Juror’s Choice: Professional Awards (as well as Best in Class recognition in the Illustration & Editorial + Print Design categories). Wow. This additional recognition comes as a great honor. It is rewarding to have my work resonate and connect with its audience. The juror’s statements in the A20 catalog describing Raw Spirits affirmed my intensions in creating this book.

Juror Antonio Castro H.'s Selection
“The book's layout and illustrations possess a beautiful, syncopated rhythm that immediately drew me in. What resonated most deeply was the unapologetic, visceral quality of Terrill's work. While I can appreciate polished, refined design, this piece reminded me of why I fell in love with graphic design and illustration in the first place, because of art that dares to speak directly to its audience, without compromise. As Spanish essayist Miguel de Unamuno described in "Tragic Sense of Life," it embodies "ugly beauty," a kind of beauty that defies conventional aesthetic norms and instead reaches for something more profound.”Juror Kitchana Joy Rasphoumy's Selection
“Each page of this Artbook was a compelling demonstration of a talented artist that shows the breadth of being an illustrator and designer. Each illustration had its own platform - captivating the audience in emotions, storytelling, and various stylistic approaches. The unique artwork balanced with the well-thought editorial design was the icing on the cake. The artist found a way to seamlessly tie in years of work bound in a book with an overall theme that was easily digestible and entertaining to peruse. Simply breathtaking.”
